We are so Thankful for each of you and are truly blessed to count you among our friends and customers.

The store will be open extended hours 9am to 8pm this day only with SALES throughout the entire store!

The Open House a few weeks ago was such a wonderful way to kickoff the Holiday Season.

Since then we have restocked and reset with new product!

We will be joined by several amazing artisans setting up for this one day event.

But it is coming together and looking amazing!

The New Cottage is now finished...

Every little thing is reminiscent of old time traditions and decor.

We have been building the vignettes here at the store and things are really starting to take shape.

Prelude to Fall...And Autumn Classes!

Hello Everyone!
The weather has turned cooler and I thought you might like to take a stroll through the Fall vignettes at the store!
This year, we decided to play off of An Autumn Amusements theme:
Starting with a Fall Picnic:

Spicy Rosehips with it's cinnamon fragrance is one of the Autumn fragrances that we love so much. We added Squirrels, Acorns and vintage plaid hampers for a bit of fun!

The Cottage area got a few changes for the season too!
Bird watching:

Vintage Binoculars, birds, nests and Autumn leaves gave a little bit of a seasonal change.

Love this wonderful fragrance year round but it's so elegant for the Fall.

What would Autumn be without Pumpkins!

The Fresh Pumpkins Fragrance has arrived and really smells amazing!

The crows are super fun...

Just in....
The adorable maps! and blank Paris journals!

We thought it would be fun to use them as tablecloths!

In the kitchen area...

seasonal cookbooks, serving pieces and dishtowels!

Cornucopia Fragrance and black letter calligraphy prints!

Everything is starting to come up roses here at the store in Tipton!

New Summer Merchandise....

In shades of coral and pink....

The inside is nearly ready for our vendors to set up there wares during the Big Event!

We are just 22 days away!

My driver (Karen Kay Horton) and I headed out for some more of our Tipton tour...
Today we are heading to the city park!

This is the old entrance...the new one is now on the main road...St.Rd. 19.
But this is still my favorite since it is the one we used when I was growing up.

My grandfather(Gramps) would stop by

The South Pole for something to drink.

I always got a Big Red. Here at South Pole...they put a pretzel around the straw base.

And then we would head across the street to the park.

On the way home...
We would drive by the courthouse...

Several wonderful old churches....

And then by the convent...
The Sisters of Saint Joseph.

I love this place because of this wonderful old chapel.

Tipton is still very much like it was when I was growing up...

a wonderful place to spend the day!

We look forward to spending it with you!

We are now 25 days away from the French Flea Market here at Hortons!
Yeah!
We have been restyling our store vignettes....

Adding new merchandise...

And making room for our Vendors to set up shop for the event.

We also took a drive through our little town and thought we would show you the sights!

We have our very own Movie Theater here in Tipton!
The Diana shows a different movie every week or so. Every evening at 7:15!
They have the best popcorn and the very best prices...anywhere!
On the way home...you could stop at Pizza King or Subway...both just a few doors down from Horton's

If you would rather cook...
There is no place better to pick up your groceries than Whites

Just a block of Courthouse Square and within walking distance from the store!

Tipton is a wonderful little town with a lot of home grown ways to stay entertained.

We now filled to capacity with the most amazing vendors!

A lot of Artisans as well as vintage dealers!

It's going to be a wonderful event...so much to see and do!

We can't wait for you to get here!

Now in our 3rd year ,

we have so many wonderful things to share!

First,

The event will take place rain or shine on Friday, July 8 from 9-6 and Saturday, July 9 from 9-5.

Second,

This year we were able to add several vendors spaces inside our store!

By doing so, we will have many more vendors with amazing products and wares !

As always, the parking lot will be filled with vendors in tents, merchants at carts

and the sound of French music playing in the background!

Our dear friend Karen will be teaching us how to make a memory book!
The adorable project is called

Life is good!

Each page is a treasured memory...you can use it for a special photo or little bits of ephemera!

Hello everyone!
So much has been going on here in Tipton...I haven't been able to keep up!
but the good news is!

Spring is here!

The garden center is packed with:

Pansies and other cool weather plants...

Veggies...

Perennials...
And of course seeds, potatoes and onions!

Inside... we have several new arrivals as well!

So many sweet new things to bring Spring into your home!

Lots of tarnished silver and some great new vintage furniture too!

With Easter just days away and the new classroom completed...
We thought we would let you know about :

The first class to be taught in the new Tented classroom!

Just in time for Mother's Day, Graduations, Weddings and so forth :

this special class is entitled"

"Life is good"

It's a wonderful little album designed by Karen Groff,

our mixed media artist in residence!

She will be teaching this class at 11 and 1:30

Saturday, April 30th!

The cost of the class is $16.00 per person.

Reservations are now being accepted and required for attendance.

The Weekend has finally arrived and the store is now complete...well, almost!

The new "tented" classroom is not finished but other than that! It's really beautiful!
We sure hope you think so too!

Our first class in the new Ephemera Area is April the 30th. Karen Groff will be teaching us something wonderful just in time for Mother's Day! I will fill you in on all the details and cost as more information is available.

I had a little accident a few weeks ago(I broke my pinky) and climbing ladders and running the tented ceiling just isn't working out for me right now!

But, on the bright side, it's just one more reason to come back soon!
We would love to have you sign up for the very first class in the new space~

As with all things...not all of our New merchandise has arrived!
But I am Thankful for this!
This gives us another look in few weeks and new product for Mother's Day!

I love the new garden area of the store!
So many fun, new and old pieces to see!
The outdoor pillows with chairs, gazebos and settees are some of my favorite things this season!
I plan to purchase one (or two) for my little settee beside my new back door.
I love it that I won't have to worry about it getting too much sun or getting damp!
And they are so welcoming!

I also love these sweet little grey mirrors with birds in front!

The antique table is pretty cool too!

Tarnished silver is always a huge hit in Tipton
So we have reloaded our shelves and mixed in some fun new vases and Bunnies!

Our newest fragrance collection is called No. 5!
It is a really light floral but so fresh!
We have another one on it's way that is also wonderful!

The new bedroom is quite a departure from beds we have done in the past,
We used an old mantle as our headboard and did Paris Angels!
It's really sweet!

And of course,
A Spring Open House would not be the same without cool weather plants in the garden center!

Pansies are my favorite!

I looked forward to getting a flat or two for my own home every Spring!
And okay Fall too!

It just feels like Spring here in Tipton!

The Horton's are so looking forward to your visit Friday and Saturday!

Just a few days from now the store's renovation will be complete and our

Hello Everyone!

I know I have been away for awhile but it's all for a very good reason.

for the last 8 weeks...the store in Tipton has been undergoing an amazing transformation!

The paint department has been expanded and a new area for blinds, shutters and shades created.

The Secret Garden (boutique area) has been totally changed.

The old plaster on the walls which has always been a problem has been removed...

And underneath the exposed areas...

The original brick!

The brick was then sealed

And...new carpeting laid wall to wall!

No more old tiles slipping!

We then set about constructing an adorable cottage from the salvage we have been collecting for 10 years now!

Much in the spirit of Tinker House!

Entirely built from reclaimed doors, windows and other such elements!

We are not quite finished
But almost!

We hope to be moving back into the area in about a week! For now it's closed so that we can complete out task!

We are also expanding the ephemera area to include a classroom and space for more of the old doors, windows and other architectural salvage we find.
Both areas will be complete just in time for our Grand Re-Opening Event!

We are so excited about our changes we decided to have a Big To-Do!
So...

March 11 and 12

( Friday and Saturday)

We will reopen these areas for you to come and see all the changes for yourself!

For now....Please visit us at our Noblesville store located in the Logan Street Village Shoppes!

I will have more to share in the next few weeks!

Hello Everyone!

As the snow falls outside...creating a beautiful canvas of white.
A brand new look...
Pristine and enveloping.

The same thing is occurring here inside...at the Tipton store!

We have completely disassembled The paint department and the Secret Garden Lifestyle boutique in order to create a new, even more fantastic place to shop!

We are so excited about the transformation!
It will be very much in the spirit of Tinker House.
My tiny Garden Folly

Constructed of old doors, windows and other wonderments we have collected over time.

Right now...there isn't much to see.
The removal of the old plaster is currently in progress and therefore a large portion of things are covered in plastic.

But when complete....the original brick walls will be exposed!
A cottage will be constructed...in the middle of a Secret Garden!
It's really going to be dreamy!

Rooms will be built...
And filled with treasures both old and new.

But for now...we are under construction!

So check back soon for more information...

I must apologize for being away for so long!
Much is happening around here and it's sometimes quite hard to keep up!

But I have spoken to several blog/web page designers and now know what the problem is.
It's my goal to have them up and running soon!

Log Cabin Bakery will be in the store beginning at 10a.m. with all of their amazing baked goods

They were at our Autumn Evening Event this Fall and we just fell in love with their amazing homemade breads, cakes, pies and other treats!

And our dear friend Karen Groff will be teaching a special class at 11a.m.!

Karen's classes are always so much fun!

This one is on special gift tags!

She will have kits available for you to purchase as well with some of the items you will need to re-create what you learned in the class!

Greetings From Downtown Tipton, Indiana!

I have just completed the task of sorting and editing all of the photos I took of last nights

Autumn Evening Market

and thought I would share the highlights of this Amazing Evening with you.

The Day began with clear blue sky a slight breeze

and I kid you not...

The smell of Autumn in the air!

It took us several trips around the event

and a couple of our guests to figure out

where the fragrance came from

(turns out...one of the vendors had incense burning under a table!)

We had the normal tad bit of drama...

one of our vendors called 2 hours before start up with an emergency
and would not be able to make it.

Now under normal circumstances...
it would just be an empty space that we would fill in with more pumpkins, mums and hay...

but....

This was our beverage vendor!

So...guess what?

We jumped in with both feet and created our very own

Beverage Booth!

Which for most of the event...Our very own Aunt Karen ran for us!

( Bless you and Thank You!)

When we say we are a close knit,

family owned business...

we aren't kidding!

We are so... blessed that everyone jumps in to lend a hand!

We were busy from the very beginning...

outside...

And in!

We had musicians...

Creating the perfect ambiance for such an event!

And Fabulous Vendors!

And then...

the magic began!

Dusk began to settle on our wonderful little town

So we lit up the evening sky!

We were not exactly sure what to expect....

This is a small Midwestern Town

Where the sidewalks roll up at dark!

But our guests continued to come until the very end!

It such a wonderful evening!

Yes...it's really here that amazing time of the year we often yearn for.
The trees are turning, theres a slight chill to the air and Festivals, Markets and Fairs are in full swing.

We are so excited!

The mums and pansies have arrived along with hay bales, pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and other Fall Decorating delights!

Autumn's Arrival

Welcome Friends!
Autumn has finally arrived here at the store in Tipton!

It took about a week and a half....but it's HERE

I thought I would walk around a bit and show you a few things...I hope you don't mind!

Every Season...We try to show you some unique ways to make an entrance.
Filling our urns is always fun!

An unexpected way to decorate a door.

Or even a wall in the entry!

Our version of a trick or treat picnic!

I love to put colors together in unexpected combinations!

Fragrance plays such a huge part in our displays...

Our Pumpkin display...

And Cornucopia fragrances.

Sometimes it really is the little things that make the biggest difference

...like maybe a tiny Fall tag garland?

Or a scattering of cobwebs and fall leaves.

Maybe just a pumkin or two...

Some acorns and leaves...

or a couple of crows and some bittersweet!

And every once in a While....we go for the big WOW!

adding fall bedding and leaves to our tree bed has been quite the hit!

because we have been brewing up some fabulous concoctions of late!

Lavender Lemonade And Grilled Chicken Pasta Salad

Hello Everyone!
We are back with the promised recipes!

To start with...When we first began thinking of different drinks that could be served in our Patisserie on a hot summer day....Lemonade made the top the of the list. It's always good and refreshing. But how do you improve on a timeless classic?

Well Karen Kay did some research and found this twist...Lavender!

Oh yeah! One of our favorite herbs/flowers!

So here it is:
Ingredients:
3 cups sugar
7 sprigs of lavender(stems and buds) plus additional for garnish*
2 cups fresh lemon juice (from about 12 lemons) We used a combination of fresh lemons and concentrate.
1/2 cup fresh lime juice(from about 5 lemons)
Directions:
In a large saucepan, bring one gallon of water and the sugar to a boil. Remove from heat; add 7 lavender sprigs and lemon and lime juices. Cool to room temperature, strain, and chill.
Serve on ice with additional lavender to garnish.
This batch makes about 16 servings..so guess how many batches Karen Kay made?
I don't exactly know...but she was up late on Friday night making more for Saturday!

Now for the Grilled Chicken Pasta Salad

As you might have heard...On Saturday, lunch was served to our wonderful vendors. I wanted something light and that could be served hot or cold.

I turned to a recipe that we fix year round at our house.
It is amazing hot or cold and it makes a large amount! Perfect!

ingredients:

salt

1/2 pound bowtie pasta

3 cloves garlic,chopped

2 tablespoons McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning, 2 palmfuls

2 teaspoons Tabasco hot sauce (eyeball it and add more if you wish)

3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

5 tablespoons red wine vinegar

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 large yellow onions, cut into thick slices

6 thin-cut chicken breast cutlets

2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard

Fresh ground black pepper

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

2 bunches arugula

1 small head radicchio

2 cups fresh basil

1/4 cup fresh flat leaf parsley

3 ribs of celery

Mozzarella cheese, grated

1 pint grape tomatoes

*I occasionally add pine nuts for a fun flavor twist

Directions:

Heat a grill to high heat ( I use my foreman grill in the winter and outside in the summer)

Bring a large pot of water to boil, once the water boils, add the salt and the pasta, cook until al dente...about 9-11minutes

In a small mixing bowl, mix the garlic, grill seasoning, tabasco,Worcestershire's sauce, and 2 tablespoons of the vinegar. Whisk in 1/4 cup of the olive oil. Divide the mixture into 2 bowls. Add the sliced onions to one and the chicken cutlets to the other. Toss to coat and marinade for a few minutes.

In a salad bowl, combine the mustard and the remaining 3 tablespoons of vinegar with a little salt and freshly ground pepper. Whisk in the remaining 1/4 cup olive oil and then add the Parmesan Cheese.

Once the pasta is cooked,drain it thoroughly and add it to the salad bowl with the dressing and toss to coat. by adding the pasta while it is hot...it soaks up all dressing!

Grill the onion slices until they are soft and well caramelized...Grill the Chicken until done (about 3 to 4 minutes on each side) Remove both the onions and the chicken to a cutting board and allow them to rest for about 5 minutes. Coarsely chop the onions and grilled chicken and then add them to the pasta.

Add the arugula, radicchio, basil, parsley, celery and grape tomatoes. Toss to coat. Add the Mozzarella and a little more salt and freshly ground pepper.

Ta Da!
Super simple really and as you know oh so good!

So there you have it...another french flea market wrapped up and tied with a bow!

As so many of you know...we just wrapped up our
2nd Annual French Flea Market here in Tipton.
Life is beginning to go back to its normal pace but before the dust completely settles...we had a handful of pictures we thought we would share.
That is...until the photos that Tracey took arrive!

Hello Everyone!
Today was a big day here in Tipton...

.
Setup for our 2nd Annual French Flea Market has begun!
The parking lot is getting readied....
Vendor spaces marked off...
Main gate pieces collected...
And a few of our own spaces completed so that we can attend to other things the rest of the week.

The first two to be completely setup was Holly's space
which we constructed from old doors and paint tarps!

Holly and Caleb (the young man in this photo) will not be here for the Flea Market this year.

They will be on a mission trip with their youth group!

So...in order for Holly to get to do the interior of her own space...it was built today!

I am in love with this cozy little gypsy tent!

It is so fitting all of the fun jewelry and handknitted items Holly makes!

(This is Holly!)

The Antique Flower cart (just behind her in this photo ) will be filled with Fresh Flowers and Potpourri this weekend.

Holly's Grandmother will be running these two precious spaces for us!

Next...we moved on to the Patisserie!

On Friday and Saturday this space will be filled with amazing treats!

Lavender Lemonade...

Brownie bites...

Lemon cakes...

And Chocolate pudding cake with fresh fruit to name just a few!

The skirted old sink will be filled with ice cold bottled waters

And the iron basket...homemade breads and herb butter!

I can't believe it's really June...Yet here we are!

Here at Horton's, we are counting down the days until our:

2nd Annual French Flea Market

It will once again take place

Rain or Shine

July 9 & 10 (Friday and Saturday)

Held in the parking lot of our Tipton store

112 S. Main Street (corner of St. Rd. 19 & 28)

The gate and store will open at 9a.m. each day.

and close at 5:00.

We are so excited about this year's event!

Several vendors are returning from last year as well as some new ones!

14 vendors all together to create a wonderful shopping experience.

Their wares range from handcrafted wonderments, heirloom veggies,

reworked, reclaimed items, paper crafts, vintage finds and delicious treats!

The Dinner Train that runs from Noblesville to Tipton...is making a special run just for our event on Saturday!

The Patisserie will be back this year as well as fresh flower vendors with handmade potpourri!

We will be joined by Rebecca Ersfield who was recently featured in Where Women Create.

Her space will feature her amazing art! She will have a few magazines for you to purchase but if you already have one...bring it for Rebecca to sign!

Many talented artisans and vendors will be spending this time with us

and we hope you stop by as well!

We will have the clearance sale in the small greenhouse and the gift shoppe will be restocked with a wide array of delightful new products too!

A new look for the garden center

I know you've heard us say it before...

but were so glad you're here!

This time of year is quite busy for all of us here at Horton's.

Semi's arrive with load after load of new annuals, perennials, herbs and veggies.

Each year, we try and give the side entrance to the store...

and the garden center a new look.

This year, We decided to use some of our favorite finds...

And Yards and yards of burlap!

we then added loads of galvanized wonderment's...

and mixed it with white, grey and a fresh shade of green!

The Next Big Event

I hope that this post finds one and all doing quite wonderfully during this joyous and busy season.
As you can have probably noticed...
I have stepped away from my laptop for a bit!

But the world must continue to spin around even though I am out of the loop.

This morning...I had a moment...
and thought I would share with you the Newsletter that was just emailed to the store to be printed.

You see, I am about 1200 miles away and somewhat distracted.

So...upon my return...we will having this wonderful event
"An Elegant Winter's Evening"
And I wanted to tell you about it as soon as I could.

The Friday evening following Thanksgiving, (Also known as Black Friday)

Isn't it a Hoot?

Happy Day to All!

This will be day 3 in pictures!

This is one of my favorite things.

I had walked down to get me a snack one afternoon last week and when I came back I saw these two cool baskets sitting in the stores green house window. I asked the Horton's if they could be used and

Viola!

Instant Love.

sitting upon stacks of books and book page shred are juniper berry wreaths, antique teacups and these adorable little owls...aren't they a hoot?

they are hanging in the "Nature's Alley"

Just beyond the Aqua Doors.

the window boxes...filled with juniper, ferns ,icy picks and little juniper topiaries

and of course...the little brown owls!

Let's take a look at Santa's House

Last night I quickly gathered some of the photos we had taken of our little French cottage...
And I could have taken you ...
just across the way to Our Flights of of Fancy room and Nature Alley...
But the crowds were thick so we walked around to Santa's House.

Back thru the red entry!

I wonder what everyone is looking at?

While we are waiting to get in...

Let me tell you a little bit about this vignette.

As you know, Santa is quite old these days. and Even though he still loves all the hoopla that goes with the season. He likes his old things too!

Did you know Santa collects old globes? Well, we didn't either until we began designing this room.

He's also a little obsessed with Keys and Locks. ( I guess, just in case there is no chimney available!)

His fireplace is a recued piece that we left "as is" I love this grayed color and the tiny bits of peely paint!

Instead of a fire though...we have baskets of globes, keys, locks. key holes and...books!

The elves have told us that his favorite decorations are the letters he recieves from the children all over the world.

Did I mention Elves? WELL! Wait 'till you see the what's up...

This is where the elves train!

Antique ladders surround a rescued pergola piece and the elves are everywhere...learning how to fill bags...

wrap gifts...and read THE LIST...you know the naughty or nice list!

This guy is Orville...He is very much the" go to" guy.

Obviously in charge!

I had to put this wee one on the blog!

I LOVE The Hair!

We really had some cute little visitors yesterday!

Okay...so this was where we had our traffic jam earlier!

I think they were checking out the Santa Hat Chandy's

Back to the Table.

All the pieces are wonderful finds that we painted black, cream or these two shades of salmon.

The table itself is set with April Cornell table Linens...Santa face plates and mugs all set on vintage children's story books!

The entire theme was based on "The Clauses"

Santa only delivers to Good Boys and Girls.

4.Santa says: Never forget...Jesus is the reason for the season!

the highchairs are actually for the elves...they didn't like sitting on stacks of phone books! (We tried though!)

So...from here we should be heading thru to Whimsy Kitchen....but I needed a break!

So...I headed over to say "Hi" to Patti Cummings and Karen McComas.

(of course we are standing in lawn in garden...It was the only place left)

Patti made all the delicious food for the event.

I am told we went thru 140 cups by noon!

WOW! A whoppin' HUGE Thank you to Patti!

Everything was delicious!

Okay...so back to work!

I guess the elves are in charge of the decor here...because it is poppin'

A glance back into Santa's

wonderful "yarn inspired" decor...

And giant lit ornaments.

this little kitchen is just off of the "Flights of Fancy " room. But that will have to wait until tomorrow!

I must get going to work!

Don't forget...The store is open today(very rare) Sunday,Nov. 8th from 1-5

And the Noblesville store is still having it's Open House as well!
